What is a learnership?

A learnership therefore consists of theory-based learning, similar to that offered by tertiary institutions, as well as work experience. This makes it a highly effective form of achieving a qualification.

JULY 2016:

Sun Ace South Africa (Pty) Ltd achieves a first time accreditation for:
Marine Notice No. 25 of 2016, Verification of the
Gross Mass of Packed Containers

Sun Ace South Africa is a subsidiary of a Global Polymer Additive Business and exports approximately half of it’s production into 15 African Countries. This export diversity provides a US Dollar hedge against local Rand currency.

As of 1 July 2016, The International Maritime Organization (IMO) amended the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to require, as a condition for loading a packed container onto a ship for export, that the packed container has a verified gross weight. The shipper is responsible for verification of the packed container’s gross weight. After 1 July, it would be a violation of SOLAS to load a packed container onto a vessel if the vessel and marine terminal operators do not have verified container weights. Furthermore, it is illegal to collect packed containers for shipment without the correct documentation.

On becoming aware of the requirement, Sun Ace immediately put a program into place to become accredited by 1 July. Sun Ace used the services of SGS, an approved SANAS auditor, to perform the required audit and verifications during June 2016.

Sun Ace achieved the verification after a single audit. SGS confirmed Sun Ace to be one of the first companies to be compliant. This is testament to the entrenched quality systems, consistency in processes, and accuracy in measurement, that Sun Ace customers have become accustomed to. Sun Ace complies with the following processes and documentation:

1. A Verification Certificate, (SGS - erda949log*n accredited Verification Laboratories)
2. Safe packing of the container, by even distribution
3. Appointed and competent Verification Officers
4. Calibration and verification certificates
5. Training records of operators of weighing equipment
6. Servicing and maintenance records of weighing equipment
7. Records of weight tickets issued

BOARD MEETING JUNE 2016:

VISIT TO JAPAN

Gary and Terence took the opportunity during the June 2016 board meeting to visit the Sun Ace factory in Japan. En route, they passed by Mount Fuji where one can drink the water flowing from the Mount. It is recorded that 2.2 billion tons of snow and rain falls on Mount Fuji each year. This equates to 5.3 million tons being stored as ground water daily! This in turn filters through the gaps in the layers of lava rock, creating water with few dissolved elements, ideal for drinking.
