GROUP TECHNICAL MEETING – SINGAPORE

The Maasai (sometimes spelled "Masai") are a Nilotic ethnic group of semi-nomadic people inhabiting southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. The warrior is of great importance as a source of pride in the Maasai culture. To be a Maasai is to be born into one of the world's last great warrior cultures. With the tradition that the leaders and the warriors of the tribe wear the Shuka, which are sheets traditionally worn wrapped around the body, one over each shoulder, then a third over the top of them. These are typically red. It was a humbling experience when Hillary presented Ian Lilja (Managing Director Sun Ace Australia and Sun Ace Group Technical Director) with a Shuka, which will resembled him as our warrior and tribe leader.

BIG GROWTH IN NUMBERS AT CHINAPLAS

A number of records were set at the recent Chinaplas show in Shanghai. The 28th edition of Asia’s largest plastics and rubber fair ran in Shanghai from 23-26 April, where Alistair Calder, Group Technical Service Manager and Richard Phillips Non Vinyl Business Manager, represented Sun Ace South Africa. The fair attracted 130370 visitors over the four days, up 14.26% on the event last year in Guangzhou. It also sets a new record since its debut in 1983.

Over 3000 exhibitors from 39 countries participated at the show, with over 400 being new to the show. In addition to occupying all 17 exhibition halls at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), 13 additional outdoor halls and six exhibition suites were also set up at the Central Square of SNIEC to cope with the ever increasing number of exhibitors, resulting in a total exhibition area over 220000 square meters.

Global collaboration is at the fore-front of Sun Ace business strategy and fairs like Chinaplas, make for good interaction from the company’s perspective. The competitive drive out of China continues to be a reminder of world trends and needs.
